The city of Spokane, Washington is awakened by a North Korean paratrooper invasion. Marine Corps veteran Jed Eckert and his civilian brother, Matt, escape with a group of friends to an isolated cabin in the woods, where they witness the execution of their father at the hands of the ruthless Captain Cho. The brothers unite with their friends to form a guerrilla resistance group–the Wolverines–to drive the invaders from their home.
I read a review where the story of the movie was said to be unlogical and hard to believe. Well it's also hard to believe that a man shoots webs from his arms and that an alien lands on earth and can fly and shoot lasers from his eyes.<br/><br/>But it's not about a band of young men and women fighting against an army that's making this movie bad. It is that it is just so trivial. There is no feeling for the characters involved because they're just the 500th football playing college kids you will see in a movie. There is no heart and there is not one good actor in it.<br/><br/>Not worth watching at all …
Alright this movie is average, don't go into it thinking anything else. Yes is the plot a tad ridiculous, yes, is it 100% unbelievable, no. Personally I enjoyed it for what it was, a cheesy action flick. An example of that would be the only time I saw someone have to reload was to add tension in the story. Overall a good movie to burn a hour and a half on. And for the people saying "oh why are all the females so emotional all the time" I would say to you thats reality. However you see every single character break down during some point of the movie. If I saw my significant other/brother/father get shot down I would have to take a second to.
Unfortunately, the characters are so programmatic, the premise so ridiculous and the situations so far-fetched even if you accept that premise that no energy can be built, and the little that's there can't be sustained. Red Dawn is a vigorous but pointless exercise.
There's no indication that this is anything but set in modern dayof the time of filming/release. No. In the dissolution of the Soviet Union, from 1989 to '91, Russia ceased to be part of it; an event which over time drastically reduced any hostile motives Russia had with the Western bloc, leaving mainly only North Korea and Cuba,well(the far more powerful but far less extreme) mainland China,the remnants of the Cold War and overall arms race (or ideological mockery) between Communists and Westerners. As such, for this story, the Soviet Union has been replaced by North Korea. It was speculated that an ex-Spetsnaz officer (the Spetsnaz being Russian special forces) would be in the filma trained mercenary, though; yet little was known about him or how much we would see of him in the film. Yes, the People's Republic of China (PRC) was originally presentedthe invading regime, but after pressure from the PRC government and studio concerns on how it could impact the international box office, the film was digitally altered in post-production to replace all the PRC flags, posters and dialogue with that of North Korea.
